Why I’m Reviewing

The board and card game industry (collectively called tabletop games) has seen exponential growth in the past five to ten years. This growth is due in large part to the quality of new games being published. Although the tabletop industry is growing, it’s still small compared to video games and toys. Due to the industry’s relatively small size, a lot of the great games being published are hard to find –either because they are only available in specialty stores or because they are hidden among piles of mediocre games. But that doesn’t mean you can’t find great new games at the stores you probably already frequent.

In this blog, I will search out, play, review, and make recommendations on games that I have found at stores like Target, Walmart, Kmart, Shopko, Toys R Us, and Barnes & Noble. This will not be a comprehensive list of games; I will focus on games I think will be good for families -and friends.

Some games have a relatively low rating, but that’s because I’m comparing them to other great games (essentially, you could add 5 stars to every review on this blog and make it a 0-10 rating system).

Also, these ratings are based on family friendly qualifications (some games will get a lower rating only because they are too complex for kids, not because they are bad games).

Thanks for checking this out,
Tom

p.s. I have found that Target and Barnes & Noble have the best selection.
p.p.s. Most of these stores update their tabletop section frequently, so availability may change –in which case, online is always an option.
